NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com - Shares in Magnum Ice Cream Company surged by\nas much as 18% after private equity firms Blackstone and CD&R were\nreported to be in the early stages of considering a bid.<\/p>\n
This comes less than six months after the company was spun off from\nUnilever to create the world\u2019s largest independent ice cream maker.<\/p>\n
The private equity firms are monitoring the company\u2019s share price\nbefore deciding whether to take the next step.<\/p>\n
The potential bidders are reportedly waiting for Magnum\u2019s summer\nsales report before making a decision.<\/p>\n
Magnum shares, listed in Amsterdam, rose 10.4% at 3.50pm London\ntime.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, shares listed in the US jumped by a similar amount.<\/p>\n
A Magnum spokesperson said the company would not comment on rumours\nor speculation.<\/p>\n
Blackstone and CD&R declined to comment.<\/p>\n
Magnum owns ice cream brands including Magnum, Cornetto, Heartbrand\nand Ben & Jerry\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Analysts have warned of a lack of clarity over Magnum\u2019s growth\nprospects.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike other consumer goods companies, Magnum will face rising energy\nand input costs as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, as well\nas potential disruption to consumer sentiment,\u201d said UBS analysts\nearlier this month.<\/p>\n
However, they noted that the company has some offsetting factors,\nsuch as the ability to offset rising costs through positive price\nincreases for milk and palm oil.<\/p>\n
The ice cream brand was sold to Unilever in 2000.<\/p>\n
