Madurese to return to Kalimantan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The National Coordinating Board for the Management of
\nDisasters and Refugees (Bakornas PBP) said on Wednesday that the
\ngovernment would finish repatriating internally displaced persons
\nfrom the island of Madura in East Java to their homes in Central
\nKalimantan by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
\"At least 150 families will return home this year. They will
\nlead a normal life in their respective regencies under regency
\nrulings,\" Budi Atmadi Adiputro, the deputy for internally
\ndisplaced persons and refugee affairs at Bakornas PBP, said.<\/p>\n
Currently three of the six regencies that saw bloody conflicts
\ninvolving Madurese migrants have agreed to accept the returning
\nmigrants.<\/p>\n
The three regencies are North Barito, South Barito and West
\nKotawaringin. Budi said that East Kotawaringin, Palangkaraya and
\nKapuas regencies were not ready to accept the refugees because
\nthey had not prepared any rulings yet.<\/p>\n
Thousands of Madurese fled to East Timor in 2001 after a
\nbloody conflict with the local Dayak tribe broke out, which
\nresulted in dozens dying and hundreds injured. --JP<\/p>",
