        "content": "<p>A member of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) who assaulted a Madrasah\nTsanawiyah student identified by the initials AT (14) until the boy died\nnear Uningrat Campus in Tual City, Maluku, on Thursday 19 February 2026,\nhas been secured and detained at the Tual Police Resort detention\nfacility. The Maluku Regional Police have confirmed that legal\nproceedings against the officer will proceed without compromise.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, identified as First Class Private (Bripda) MS, is a\nmember of Brimob Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor. He is known to have\nassaulted the victim, who was riding a motorcycle with his older\nsibling. The victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment but\nultimately died, whilst his sibling suffered a fractured bone.<\/p>\n<p>The Maluku Regional Police affirmed their commitment to handling the\ncase professionally, transparently and justly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect, a member of Brimob Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor\nidentified as Bripda MS, has been secured and detained at the Tual\nPolice Resort detention facility to be held accountable for his actions\nin accordance with applicable legal processes,\u201d said the Head of Public\nRelations of the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi,\nin a press statement on Friday 20 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Maluku Police Chief, Inspector General Dadang\nHartanto, stressed that there would be no tolerance for legal or ethical\nviolations committed by police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond criminal proceedings, the Maluku Regional Police have also\nensured that the National Police Professional Code of Ethics enforcement\nmechanism will run simultaneously. Should the ethics tribunal find\nevidence of a serious violation, a stern sanction in the form of\nDishonourable Discharge from the National Police force may be imposed\nupon the individual concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are handling this case firmly and in multiple layers. Criminal\nproceedings are underway, and the code of ethics process is also\nunderway. If found guilty, the sanctions will be clear and firm,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>As a form of internal oversight, the Police Chief has instructed the\nInternal Affairs Inspectorate and the Head of the Professional and\nSecurity Division of the Maluku Regional Police to conduct a thorough\ninvestigation into the sequence of events and the case handling\nprocedures.<\/p>\n<p>The Commander of the Maluku Regional Police Brimob Unit has also\ndeparted for Tual City to ensure the process is conducted according to\nregulations and to directly supervise personnel on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, the Maluku Police Chief publicly offered an apology\nto the victim\u2019s family for the tragedy, whilst conveying deep sympathy\nand condolences.<\/p>",
