Madiun Regency has received support from the Local Service Delivery\nImprovement Project (LSDP), a programme worth billions of rupiah from\nthe central government, for integrated waste management at the regional\nlevel with backing from the World Bank.<\/p>\n
\u201cMadiun Regency is included in the list of 30 regions that will\nreceive the LSDP programme after going through a selection process and\nreadiness assessment. All preparations have begun for the implementation\nof the programme,\u201d said Iwan Kurniawan, Director of Regional Development\nPlanning, Evaluation, and Information at the Directorate General of\nRegional Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs, during a site\ninspection for waste management in Madiun, East Java, on Friday.<\/p>\n
To support the LSDP programme, the Madiun Regency Government has\nprepared supporting facilities, including land for an integrated waste\nprocessing facility (TPST). The regency government has prepared\napproximately two hectares of land in the Kaliabu landfill area in\nMejayan District for the construction of the TPST.<\/p>\n
The location was selected after going through desk-based stages, both\nonline and face-to-face, followed by site visits from the central\ngovernment technical team and World Bank representatives.<\/p>\n
The programme is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs\nsupported by the World Bank, with a focus on integrated waste management\nfrom upstream to downstream, embracing the concept of zero waste.<\/p>\n
Through the LSDP programme, waste is processed into economically\nvaluable products such as refuse-derived fuel (RDF), compost, animal\nfeed, and other derivative products.<\/p>\n
This step is expected to provide an answer to the national challenge\nof waste handling while also paving the way for the development of a\ngreen economy in the regions.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo from upstream to downstream. There is infrastructure, transport\nequipment, transportation, hangars, machinery, and also institutional\nstrengthening and public education,\u201d said Iwan.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Zahrowi, Head of the Environmental Agency of Madiun Regency,\nsaid upon receiving the LSDP team that the selection of the TPST\nconstruction site in the Kaliabu landfill area had been adjusted to meet\nthe programme requirements.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the main requirements of the LSDP programme is that the land\nstatus must be an asset owned by the regional government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Madiun Regency Government had previously\nprepared two alternative locations for the TPST construction, namely the\nKaliabu landfill area and a TPST site in Bangunsari, Dolopo District.\nHowever, the Kaliabu landfill in Mejayan District was selected as the\nproposed location for the construction of the integrated waste\nprocessing facility through the LSDP programme.<\/p>\n
