        "content": "<p>The Maapam tradition and Salapan Aia Bangih dance in West Pasaman\nhave been officially designated as Indonesia\u2019s Intangible Cultural\nHeritage (WBTb) from 2025 by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of\nIndonesia. The designation certificate was handed over by West Sumatra\nGovernor Mahyeldi Ansharullah and received directly by the Assistant for\nGeneral Administration of the West Pasaman Regional Secretariat, Harlina\nSyahputri, at the Governor\u2019s Office Hall in Padang on Friday (28\/8).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis designation is the state\u2019s recognition of the historical,\nsocial, and cultural value of West Pasaman. Our next task is not only to\nsafeguard the certificate, but to ensure that the heritage remains\nalive, is practised, loved, and passed on to the next generation,\u201d she\nsaid in Simpang Empat on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The tradition serves as a means of strengthening social relations\nwithin the community. In 2020, the Maapam activity in West Pasaman was\nrecorded in the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) with 1,500\nstoves, demonstrating the strong spirit of residents in preserving the\ntradition.<\/p>\n<p>The tradition is routinely held every year in certain months, such as\nahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s birthday, and\nthe commemoration of Isra Mi\u2019raj. The Maapam tradition involves cooking\napam, a traditional Minangkabau cake made from rice flour, coconut milk,\nand palm sugar. The apam is cooked traditionally using stoves with\nnatural fuel such as coconut leaves, and iron cauldrons. The process is\nusually carried out in open spaces to minimise the impact of smoke.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, a total of 37 cultural works from West Sumatra were\ndesignated as Indonesia\u2019s Intangible Cultural Heritage. She expressed\nhigh appreciation from the West Pasaman Regency Government to the West\nSumatra Provincial Government, the Ministry of Culture, cultural\npractitioners, artists, cultural figures, ninik mamak, and the entire\ncommunity who have consistently preserved the region\u2019s cultural\nheritage.<\/p>\n<p>The designation of the two cultural works as Indonesia\u2019s Intangible\nCultural Heritage is not only a source of pride for West Pasaman, but\nalso a reminder that culture is a living identity within society.\nCultural heritage is not merely a relic of the past. More than that,\nculture is part of community life that must continue to be safeguarded,\npractised, and passed on to future generations.<\/p>\n<p>With the designation of Maapam and Salapan Aia Bangih as Indonesia\u2019s\nIntangible Cultural Heritage, West Pasaman has further reinforced the\nposition of local cultural wealth as an important part of the national\ncultural treasury.<\/p>",
