        "content": "<p>On Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at 17:53 WIB, the Cianjur Regency area\nin West Java and its surroundings were shaken by a tectonic earthquake.\nAnalysis from the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency)\nshows an updated magnitude of M4.3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe epicentre of the earthquake was located at coordinates 6.91 LS\nand 107.10 BT, specifically on land 10 km Southwest of Cianjur Regency,\nWest Java, at a depth of 4 km,\u201d stated Hartanto, Head of BMKG Region II\nSouth Tangerang, in his statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the location of the epicentre and the depth of the\nhypocentre, the earthquake was a shallow type resulting from active\nfault activity.<\/p>\n<p>Based on reports from the community, the earthquake was felt in the\nCianjur area with an Intensity Scale of III - IV MMI (perceivable by\nmany people in houses during the day); in the areas of Sukabumi City,\nCibadak, Nagrak, Warung Kondang, Cimahi, and Cilaku with an Intensity\nScale of II - III MMI (vibrations clearly felt in houses, similar to a\npassing truck); and in Bandung City, Cibubur, and Sukaraja with an\nIntensity Scale of II MMI (vibrations felt by some people, with light\nhanging objects swaying).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, up to this point, there have been no reports regarding\nbuilding damage as a result of the earthquake,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>As of 18:15 WIB, BMKG monitoring has not shown any aftershock\nactivity. The Cianjur Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has\nurged residents to remain calm but vigilant following the M4.3\nearthquake on Tuesday. Officials are still surveying the field for any\npotential damage.<\/p>",
