        "content": "<p>Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Lumajang Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD) is strengthening the Semeru Advance Posts to\nspeed up the delivery of disaster information on Mount Semeru, using\nearly warning sirens that can be activated whenever conditions require\npublic vigilance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe speed of information delivery is one of the key factors in\nreducing disaster risk,\u201d said the Head of Lumajang Regency BPBD,\nIsnugroho, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The safety of communities living in areas prone to Mount Semeru\u2019s\nhazards remains a priority for the Lumajang Regency Government, which is\nwhy the two Semeru Advance Posts \u2014 located at Curah Kobokan in Candipuro\nDistrict and at Oro-Oro Ombo in Pronojiwo District \u2014 are being optimised\nas the frontline in accelerating the delivery of early warning\ninformation to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe existence of the Advance Posts is part of efforts to strengthen\npreparedness in facing potential disasters triggered by Mount Semeru\u2019s\nactivity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to conducting field monitoring, officers also relay\nup-to-date information to residents, volunteers and workers carrying out\nactivities along the rivers whose headwaters originate on Mount\nSemeru.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Advance Posts play a vital role in speeding up the spread\nof information whenever there is an increase in volcanic activity that\ncould trigger lahars or pyroclastic flows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough these posts, officers provide the latest information on the\npotential for lahars or pyroclastic flows so that communities can raise\ntheir vigilance and take anticipatory steps as early as possible,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe system is expected to give residents time to stop activities in\nhigh-risk areas or evacuate in accordance with officers\u2019 instructions,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Lumajang BPBD continues to optimise the function of\nthe Advance Posts as an information centre as well as a coordination\npoint for field officers.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the public always to follow official information\nconveyed through the Advance Posts and BPBD, and to avoid activities in\ndangerous areas whenever Mount Semeru\u2019s activity increases.<\/p>\n<p>Through the strengthening of this early warning system, the Lumajang\nRegency Government hopes residents will receive information more quickly\nand accurately, giving them sufficient time to take anticipatory\nmeasures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese efforts form part of the regional government\u2019s commitment to\nreducing disaster risk while improving the safety of communities in\nareas prone to Mount Semeru\u2019s hazards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to records from the Mount Semeru Observation Post officers\non Monday between 12.00 and 18.00 WIB, Mount Semeru experienced 26\neruption earthquakes, one avalanche earthquake, one blowing earthquake,\none harmonic tremor and three distant tectonic earthquakes, while\nremaining at Siaga (Alert) status.<\/p>",
