Lukman Harun's way of thinking as reported by Merdeka of Feb.
\n27 is very disturbing. I do not agree on a number of points.<\/p>\n
1. Muhammadiyah members should not talk to the press directly.
\nDoes Muhammadiyah want Lukman Harun to become a kind of censor or
\na political organization that has to adjust itself to the wishes
\nof the government?<\/p>\n
For us, Muhammadiyah, like Nahdlatul Ulama, is an Islamic
\n(community) and its leaders are members who form a group to
\nfunction as a center of communication. Thus, each person must be
\nfree to voice his or her opinion as long as it is in the
\ninterests of the community.<\/p>\n
2. What is "political meaning" according to Lukman Harun? For us,
\nthe things expressed by Amien Rais are not related to the state
\nand are not state policies either.<\/p>\n
I have followed his thoughts in various newspapers (Merdeka,
\nKompas, Media Indonesia Minggu and Bernas). None of his thoughts
\nare related to politics but to the struggle for people's rights.
\nAs chairman of Muhammadiyah, Amien Rais was aware of being a
\nfigure of the people, and therefore he had to struggle for their
\nrights.<\/p>\n
3. Lukman Harun was Muhammadiyah's spokesman for 10 years. It is
\nlogical that during his tenure (before Amien Rais') it was felt
\nthat Muhammadiyah did not struggle enough for people's rights.
\nEvidently Lukman Harun was successful in his censorship. It has
\nalso become clear to me why Amien Rais prefers to speak directly
\nto journalists.<\/p>\n
4. If necessary, report to the President? I have the impression
\nthat Lukman Harun does not know the problems so he naively thinks
\nthat the problems will be solved by seeing the President. Try to
\nfollow the Busang case from the beginning. I think it is Lukman
\nHarun who is playing tactics.<\/p>\n
