Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - An artificial intelligence (AI) based\ndigital social protection system is targeted to launch nationally during\nthe October-November 2026 period. This was revealed directly by the\nChairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar\nPandjaitan, during a press conference on Thursday (10\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
Luhut stated that President Prabowo Subianto has tasked him with\nleading the committee for the acceleration of social protection\nassistance digitalisation. The President, according to Luhut, has\nprovided directives for the immediate release of this digital social\nprotection system.<\/p>\n
According to Luhut, the plan is to release the digital social\nprotection system in the third week of October 2026. He expressed hope\nthat by the time of the launch, 80% of the trials would be completed.\nThe primary challenge, according to Luhut, lies in the technical aspects\nof data collection regarding decile grouping.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have designed it so that we can roll out in the third week of\nOctober. We hope that by that time, 80 percent of this is already\nfinished. The problem, of course, is not that simple; there are many\nissues regarding the deciles,\u201d he said on Thursday (10\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I hope that when the President rolls it out in October, there\nwill be almost no serious problems. Therefore, we have agreed to propose\nthe National Social Protection Movement to the President,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
With this new system, government social assistance (bansos) will be\ntransferred directly by the government to recipients, rather than being\nprovided in the form of goods, such as subsidies for specific\nproducts.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, the President has recently issued instructions that\neveryone must have a bank account. Because ultimately, we will no longer\nsubsidise products, but the subsidy will be given directly to the\npeople,\u201d said Luhut.<\/p>\n
Luhut noted that the programme for providing free bank accounts,\nspecifically through Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and Bank Rakyat\nIndonesia (BRI), will target Indonesia\u2019s poorest citizens, numbering\napproximately 50 million people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is the President\u2019s directive. In doing so, it brings justice.\nYes, it provides justice to our society. The 50 million poorest people\nwill certainly be included,\u201d Luhut explained.<\/p>\n
Luhut added that the social assistance funds to be transferred will\nbe adjusted to living needs, ranging from electricity bill payments and\nrice to fuel.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still considering whether to provide coupons so that it\ncannot be used for online gambling. So, it might only be for paying\nelectricity, rice, petrol, and so on.
