        "content": "<p>The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is accompanying 13\nvictims of human trafficking (TPPO) from West Java as they testify at\nthe Maumere District Court to ensure their testimony is given\nsafely.<\/p>\n<p>LPSK Deputy Chairperson Sri Nurherwati stated in a written release in\nJakarta on Sunday that the accompaniment was provided during the\ncontinuation of a trial concerning the alleged exploitation of female\nworkers from West Java. The defendants are AD and MA, the owners of\nEltras Cafe Bar and Karaoke in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa\nTenggara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this accompaniment in the trial, we want to ensure the\nvictims feel safe when giving testimony. This support is part of\nfulfilling their procedural rights so they can convey all the facts they\nexperienced freely and without pressure, allowing the evidentiary\nprocess in court to proceed optimally,\u201d said Nurherwati.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that the LPSK had previously granted the victims\u2019\nprotection requests on 16 April 2026. The programme provided includes\nthe fulfilment of procedural rights, legal protection, psychosocial\nrehabilitation, and facilitation of restitution claims.<\/p>\n<p>During the trial, the victims revealed the pattern of exploitation\nthey experienced after being recruited with promises of jobs and\npromising incomes. They admitted to being trapped through a loan scheme,\nsubjected to various fines and wage deductions, pressured to fulfil\ncustomer demands, and subjected to violence and sexual exploitation\nwhile working.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the trial, the LPSK, together with the West Java Provincial\nGovernment and the legal team, facilitated a re-reading of the\nExamination Minutes (BAP) at the Sikka District Prosecutor\u2019s Office and\ncoordinated with law enforcement officials to ensure the trial proceeded\nsafely and provided comfort for the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHandling human trafficking cases requires collaboration from all\nstakeholders so that victims not only feel safe when testifying but also\ngain access to protection, recovery, and the comprehensive fulfilment of\ntheir rights,\u201d said Nurherwati.<\/p>\n<p>She affirmed that the LPSK will continue to coordinate with law\nenforcement officials, regional governments, and other stakeholders to\nensure the judicial process prioritises a victim-centred perspective and\nguarantees the fulfilment of victims\u2019 rights in accordance with\nstatutory regulations.<\/p>",
