        "content": "<p>The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is optimising the\nimplementation of the Victim Assistance Fund (DBK) for the recovery or\nrestitution of victims of sexual violence crimes. LPSK Deputy Chair Sri\nNurherwati stated that the victim assistance fund is crucial as a part\nof restitution, because the majority of sexual violence perpetrators are\nunable to pay compensation in full. She explained that 65 percent of\nsexual violence perpetrators do not have the financial ability to pay\nrestitution, while only 35 percent are capable of doing so. \u201cSo, the DBK\nwill ultimately be used to cover that 65 percent,\u201d she said in Jakarta\non Friday (17\/7). She noted that applications for protection for victims\nof sexual violence are highest among child victims, with 60 to 70\npercent being girls. The agency has obtained an additional budget\nallocation, increasing the fund from approximately Rp700 million to Rp8\nbillion. LPSK also recorded a disparity between the agency\u2019s calculation\nof victim losses and the restitution ordered by courts. The agency\u2019s\ncalculated losses reached more than Rp14 billion, whereas prosecutors\u2019\ndemands were around Rp1.3 billion and judges\u2019 rulings were approximately\nRp1.8 billion. LPSK plans to engage in dialogue with law enforcement\nofficials to establish a common standard for calculating restitution. In\naddition to government funds, LPSK is also opening partnership\nopportunities with philanthropic organisations, corporate social\nresponsibility (CSR) programmes, and the Ministry of Immigration and\nCorrections to enable perpetrators to contribute to fulfilling their\nrestitution obligations.<\/p>",
