The endeavors toward the lowering of bank interest rates have
\ninduced me to come up with suggestions which may be used as input
\nfor decisionmakers.<\/p>\n
I realize that the lowering of interest rates cannot be done
\ninstantly. There are, however, things that could contribute
\ntoward the aim.<\/p>\n
First, eliminate all prize incentives for savings. Banks with
\naggressive advertising to attract new customers should be
\ndiscouraged, especially if they make excessive promises. Clients
\nshould rather be won by the extra value inherent in sophisticated
\nbank services.<\/p>\n
Second, Bank Indonesia should hold an interview with each bank
\non the occasion of the annual submittal of the budget plan of all
\nbanks. The use of funds from third parties should be a subject of
\ndiscussion. Priority of discussion should not only be given to
\nthe application of activities for the development of credit
\nportfolios. The stages of fund collection can be monitored by a
\nsupervisory unit of Bank Indonesia so that any deviation from the
\nvalue of third-party funds must be justified.<\/p>\n
Third, Bank Indonesia should monitor the principle of bank
\neffectiveness in the operation of a business, apart from an
\nincrease in business capital.<\/p>\n
I think bank interest rates can be lowered if the interest
\nrate of third-party funds is lowered.<\/p>\n
