The news on the finance minister's denial of corruption being
\nlinked to civil servants' low salaries was interesting to note.<\/p>\n
It is widely believed that the actions of those in positions
\nof power harm the low-ranking civil servants.<\/p>\n
For example, the government can only increase the salaries of
\ncivil servants by 5 percent to 10 percent annually. However,
\nvarious irregularities have caused the state to lose hundreds of
\ntrillions of rupiah, which could have been used to increase the
\npay of civil servants by 50 percent.<\/p>\n
For instance, there are fees for officials from the
\nembezzlement of taxes and from financial agreements, especially
\nwithin ministries classified as "superbodies". Corruption,
\ncollusion, nepotism and other criminal violations also abound.<\/p>\n
The fate of lower-echelon civil servants and those not
\ninvolved in corruption should receive special attention.<\/p>\n
