'Low politics'<\/p>\n
Indonesia's political life has been marred by \"low politics\"
\nthese past years. Power struggle and the embezzlement of state
\nfunds cannot be inherited by the next generations.<\/p>\n
Politicians are no longer capable of monitoring the
\ngovernment's performance. People who deserve protection and
\nwelfare have become target of illegal fees.<\/p>\n
State budget and provincial development funds have been used
\nonly to meet the demands of officials who are fond of traveling
\noverseas. It is really sad to see this country being managed by
\nbandits.<\/p>\n
There is a way to end these bad practices -- the 2004 general
\nelection.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, laws on the general election still reflect the
\nstatus quo, as political parties have the power to count ballots
\nduring elections.<\/p>\n
There have been signs of failure to create reform, as all
\nIndonesians wanted in 1998. The pro status quo people will
\nlikely strengthen their grip on power.<\/p>\n
