Observing the development of the ongoing monetary crisis, I,
\nas an Indonesian citizen, wish to propose the following:<\/p>\n
1. Consolidate the Love Rupiah National Drive, a program
\ninitiated by one of our national entrepreneurs and worthy of our
\nsupport.<\/p>\n
2. In the implementation of the drive, government officials,
\nbusinessmen, the community\/laymen, the press and, non-
\ngovernmental organizations must sincerely and solidly unify their
\naction.<\/p>\n
3. It is necessary to involve national (general election)
\ncampaigners, ulemas, spokespersons of government and national
\nprivate institutions to disseminate reports on this campaign to
\nthe community so that they will not only be spurred to
\nparticipate but also be able to dispel their fear\/panic and be
\nwilling to participate in coping with this monetary crisis. We
\nshould take as our model the South Koreans' efforts to stabilize
\ntheir currency.<\/p>\n
4. In the application of our five-point national philosophy of
\nPancasila, it is necessary for us to demonstrate our solidarity
\nby actively participating in the Love Rupiah National Drive with
\na view to ensuring that stability in our national economy will
\nnot be a mere slogan but a reality. As manifestation of our
\nnationalism, which is based on Pancasila, we must readily sell
\nall our U.S. dollars so that our local currency will be the only
\nlegal tender in transactions and at the same time bolster our
\npride.<\/p>\n
5. Monetary turmoil shows a crisis of confidence on the part of
\nthe community because of a confusing flow of information received
\nby the community. Therefore, this drive must not be linked too
\nmuch with political or other seemingly made up matters.<\/p>\n
6. It is necessary for us to be aware that monetary stability is
\nin the interest of the Indonesian nation as a whole and therefore
\nthe Love Rupiah National Drive is our common responsibility.<\/p>\n
7. This drive must be carried out without delay. It must be
\nimplemented with just what we have at our disposal right now
\nbecause we can do it at least with our deep love for the
\nIndonesian nation and state.<\/p>\n
May, in this month full of blessings, we be able to
\nimmediately solve our monetary problems so that the value of the
\nrupiah will gain strength and stability and may, also, my beloved
\nIndonesia be bathed in glory.<\/p>\n
