Police are advising motorists to avoid the section of Jalan Kapten P\nTendean in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, heading towards Blok M,\nfollowing an incident where a crane-carrying lorry struck a pedestrian\nbridge (JPO).<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head Kompol Mujiyanto stated\nthat the road remains passable for vehicles, but drivers are urged to\nuse alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. \u201cWe advise avoiding\nJalan Tendean and seeking alternatives, because it is still open to\naccommodate traffic; a full diversion would not be able to handle the\nvolume. It is still passable, but there is a bottleneck as the previous\ntwo lanes have been reduced to one,\u201d Mujiyanto said on Tuesday\n(14\/7).<\/p>\n
Mujiyanto added that personnel have been deployed to assist with\ntraffic management at the scene. He noted that the evacuation process is\npending the arrival of the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, as the\npedestrian bridge is tilted and nearly collapsed due to the impact. \u201cWe\nwill coordinate with Bina Marga because the JPO belongs to them; we need\nto determine what must be done first, and Bina Marga officials are on\ntheir way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mujiyanto stated the incident is suspected to have occurred because\nthe crane-carrying lorry went out of control, though investigations are\nongoing. \u201cThe exact chronology is uncertain because the JPO was not\nsnagged previously; perhaps the vehicle went out of control and got\ncaught on top, as we do not yet know the height clearance,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
