        "content": "<p>Long-suffering protesters meet Mursidi<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Activists and thirty relatives of victims of<br>\nlast year&apos;s Trisakti and Semanggi shootings on Thursday waited<br>\nfor six hours before they could meet with Jakarta Military Police<br>\nchief Col. Mungkono Mursidi to demand follow-up investigations.<\/p>\n<p>While Mursidi was out of the office, duty officers at the<br>\nJakarta Military Police Headquarters prevented the protesters,<br>\nmostly women in their fifties, from entering the compound. The<br>\nprotesters, arrived at 11 a.m., then staged a sit-down in front<br>\nof the headquarters on the sidewalk of Jl. Sultan Agung in South<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The protest obstructed traffic, stranding passing vehicles and<br>\nmotorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters included parents of the students killed in the<br>\nfatal shootings, university students and several activists from<br>\nthe Team of Volunteers for Humanity. The students and the<br>\nactivists are grouped under the Association of the Victims of<br>\nPolitical Violence.<\/p>\n<p>The military police was urged to make every effort to reveal<br>\nthe names of military officers believed to have been involved in<br>\nthe two incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Cecep, father of Engkus Kusnadi -- one of the victims of the<br>\nSemanggi shooting, said a staff member at military police<br>\nHeadquarters Maj. Wempy Hapan promised relatives last week that<br>\nMilitary Police chief Col. Mungkono Mursidi would meet with them<br>\non Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>By 2 p.m. on Thursday the commander was still not available. A<br>\nstaff member from his office said Mungkono was attending a<br>\nmeeting at city Military Command Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>The military police chief eventually appeared and met the<br>\nrelatives of the victims and the activists at 5:15 p.m..<\/p>\n<p>While quoting coordinator of the protest, Azas Tigor<br>\nNainggolan, Mursidi said the case is now handled by the National<br>\nMilitary Police headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Jakarta Military Police headquarters is only a small<br>\nelement in the investigation,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>A scuffle occurred after students and activists suspected an<br>\nidentified young man as a military intelligence member.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters chased the fleeing man and hit him several<br>\ntimes before security personnel escorted him to the safety of the<br>\nmilitary police building.<\/p>\n<p>Four students were fatally shot in the last May&apos;s Trisakti<br>\nincident in West Jakarta, while 16 people, including eight<br>\nstudents, were killed last November in the Semanggi incident in<br>\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The military&apos;s internal investigation report revealed that the<br>\nbullets, which killed the students and other people in both<br>\nincidents, were fired from military members&apos; rifles.
