Britain has stated it will not permit the United States to use its military bases for offensive strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure, such as bridges and power plants, restricting any access to defensive operations only amid escalating tensions. This decision comes in response to US President Donald Trump's threats to destroy key Iranian facilities if Tehran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, following joint US-Israeli attacks that halted shipping traffic and caused global fuel price surges. The stance highlights London's cautious approach to the conflict, with base usage evaluated case-by-case, potentially influencing broader international dynamics in the Middle East.

Moscow (ANTARA) - Britain will not allow the United States to use its
military bases to launch attacks on civilian infrastructure, such as
bridges and power plants, in Iran, according to the daily The i Paper on
Monday.

The report, citing sources, stated that London would only permit its
bases to be used for defensive strikes by the US.

Meanwhile, Trump’s threats to attack civilian infrastructure in Iran
cannot be described as defensive strikes.

The daily also reported that any decision to allow US bomber aircraft
to land at British military bases would be determined on a case-by-case
basis.

The British Royal Air Force base at Fairford is the only European
military base where US strategic bombers land. That base was also used
in the past for bombings in Iraq and Yugoslavia.

Previously, on 30 March, US President Donald Trump said he would
“blow up and completely destroy” all power plants, oil refineries,
desalination facilities, and Kharg Island if a peace agreement is not
reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not opened.

On Sunday (5/4), Trump again threatened to attack power plants and
bridges in Iran on 7 April if Tehran does not restore shipping traffic
in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States and Israel launched a joint attack against Iran on
28 February, causing damage to infrastructure and civilian
casualties.

Tehran then carried out retaliatory strikes against Israeli territory
and US military bases across the Middle East, including in Bahrain,
Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.

As a result of the tensions, shipping traffic in the Strait of
Hormuz, a key route for oil and LPG supplies from the Gulf region to
global markets, has come to a complete halt.

The impact has led to many countries experiencing rises in fuel
prices.
",
