        "content": "<p>Lockheed Martin withdraws bid<\/p>\n<p>TAIWAN: U.S. defense giant Lockheed Martin has withdrawn its bid<br>\nto supply Taiwan with an early-warning radar system as the island<br>\nwas reconsidering the controversial arms deal, leading defense<br>\njournal Jane's Defense Weekly said.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan's military authorities were re-evaluating the proposed<br>\ndeal due to several factors, including the system's<br>\nvulnerability, inability to detect cruise missiles and<br>\nenvironmental concerns, Jane's quoted a Taiwan defense source as<br>\nsaying in an article to be published on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\"A large stationary radar like Pave Paws would be an easy<br>\ntarget for antiradiation missiles,\" the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Lockheed Martin and Raytheon had been expected to submit<br>\nproposals this year to supply a radar aimed at countering the<br>\nballistic missile threat from China, Jane's said.<\/p>\n<p>Lockheed Martin was offering a modified version of the Medium<br>\nExtended Air Defense System, while Raytheon a modified AN\/FPS-115<br>\nPave Paws radar. --AFP<\/p>",
