Locals loot chickens<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Angry locals of Babat village here vandalized
\nand looted the chicken breeding firm PT Sari Jaya Farm (SJF) late
\nThursday, following the recent arrest of two residents accused of
\nstealing 45 chickens from the farm.<\/p>\n
Several windows were shattered in the fracas and hundreds of
\nchickens were stolen by the angry mob.<\/p>\n
It is reported that hundreds of residents thronged the chicken
\nfarm office at around 11 p.m. on Thursday to ask for
\nclarification over last week's arrest of the two locals by the
\nLegok Police, but were not received.<\/p>\n
Instead of meeting with the farm owner, the mass were
\nconfronted by the farm's security guard, Denny, and the meeting
\nturned into a heated debate.<\/p>\n
The mob then raided the place, pelted it with stones and
\ngrabbed the hens and cocks from their pens, creating a loud
\nbickering noise mixed with the shrieking of chickens in the
\nmiddle of the night.<\/p>\n
Police arrived about an hour after the incident and blockaded
\nthe farm to avoid further dispute.<\/p>\n
\"The situation in the chicken farm is relatively calm now. We
\nhave managed to persuade the people to restrain themselves and to
\nsettle the case properly,\" First Insp. Elisius, chief of Legok
\nPolice, said on Friday.<\/p>\n
He said, however, that the two alleged thieves would still be
\nprosecuted.<\/p>\n
The losses in the incident were estimated to reach Rp 5
\nmillion, said farm owner Reddy Wijaya. (41\/edt)<\/p>",
