Local talent gets filmmaking course<\/p>\n
Aiming to prove that the Jakarta International Film Festival
\n(JiFFest) is not just about screening films for entertainment but
\nalso about functioning as a catalyst for the development of the
\ncountry's burgeoning film industry, organizers of the festival
\nare holding three workshops for local filmmakers.<\/p>\n
With renowned film professionals acting as tutors in the
\nworkshops, JiFFest plans to offer technical know-how on
\nfilmmaking to local filmmakers.<\/p>\n
Starting on Monday, film industry big names such as Australian
\nproducer Curtis Levy, documentary film director Graeme Isaac and
\nDutch director Leonardo Retel Hemrich will share their knowledge
\non writing good scripts and how to spend money on big-budget
\nfilms.<\/p>\n
Most recently released local films have suffered from poor
\nscreenplays; what results is logic-defying storylines. Most of
\nthe films also lack sustainable funding.<\/p>\n
Among local names that have been declared eligible to join the
\nworkshop are director Nan Triveni Achnas, animated-film director
\nTintin Wulia, actress Paquita Widjaya-Afief, director in a number
\nof sinetron (local soap operas) Putu Kusuma Wijaya and Video Babe
\nproduction house cofounder Ariani Darmawan.<\/p>\n
Workshop participants were required to submit scripts for
\ntheir planned films and will get a chance to improve them under
\nguidance of the tutors.<\/p>\n
Shorlisted participants can compete for prize money totaling
\n30,000 euros, enough to finance their submitted project.<\/p>\n
