        "content": "<p>Local professional basketball players set up association<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Professional basketball players of the Kobatama<br>\nnational league premier division will set up the Players<br>\nAssociation (Apbama) to act as a mediator between the players and<br>\nsponsors and clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Apbama will consist of players who are still playing in the<br>\nKobatama and former players.<\/p>\n<p>\"Firstly, we will develop a communications network among<br>\nmembers to convey any information from Jakarta to players in the<br>\nprovinces,\" Apbama's chief of the special committee on<br>\nmembership, Amran A. Sinta, told a media briefing on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\"The next tasks will include drawing up a code of ethics for<br>\nprofessional players to let them know how to behave both on and<br>\noff the court. We won't hesitate to criticize the Indonesian<br>\nBasketball Association (Perbasi) so as to improve the league's<br>\nperformance,\" said Amran, a former top player with the 1999<br>\nleague winner Satria Muda.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that most of the players who join the premier<br>\ndivision clubs were not professionals due to their poor skills<br>\nand attitude.<\/p>\n<p>\"The clubs can decide if they want to recruit players based on<br>\nour recommendations.\"<\/p>\n<p>Amran said Apbama could not interfere with the value of<br>\ncontracts between players, clubs and sponsors. He also said that<br>\nthe association would not set a salary range for its members due<br>\nto the different financial circumstances of each club.<\/p>\n<p>\"I don't know anything about salaries for individual players<br>\nbecause that's between them and their clubs. One thing for sure<br>\nis that their salaries will be more than the minimum regional<br>\nwage. Apbama can't interfere with the decisions because each<br>\nclub's financial ability is different.<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta administration hiked the monthly wage for Jakarta-<br>\nbased workers last September from Rp 286,000 (US$25) to Rp<br>\n344,257. The minimum wage is different in each province.<\/p>\n<p>Top player from Aspac Texmaco, Tri Adnyana Adiloka, said he<br>\nwould study Apbama's vision and mission before deciding to join.<\/p>\n<p>\"I think an association should have a vision to improve the<br>\nplayers' remuneration. As players, we also dream of having a good<br>\nincome and a good life.\"<\/p>\n<p>He also expected that Apbama could help voice the players'<br>\naspirations to Perbasi.<\/p>\n<p>No official figures are available, but only big clubs --<br>\nincluding Aspac Texmaco of Jakarta, Panasia Indosyntec of Bandung<br>\nand Bhinneka Sritex of Surakarta -- provide their players with<br>\ngood salaries and allowances for education and healthcare.
