Local govt to fund workers' return<\/p>\n
PEKANBARU, Riau: In the future, local administrations will
\nhave to bear part of the cost of repatriating illegal workers
\ndeported by the Malaysian government.<\/p>\n
The new scheme was formulated during a coordinating meeting
\nhere recently. Among those attending the meeting were Minister of
\nHome Affairs Surjadi Soedirdja, Minister of Manpower and
\nTransmigration Al Hilal Hamdi and Indonesia's Ambassador to
\nMalaysia Hadi Wayarabi.<\/p>\n
\"We sat down together and formulated that the cost of
\nrepatriating laborers would be shouldered by the respective
\nregions,\" Surjadi said as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
Two methods were agreed to. For laborers deported by the
\nMalaysian government directly to their hometowns, the cost will
\nbe covered by the respective local administration and the
\nMalaysian government.<\/p>\n
However, there was no specific breakdown of the percentage
