\u201cWe are still grateful that year-on-year inflation remains at 2.42\nper cent in April, but for this May, we must closely observe\ndevelopments, particularly the impact of rising oil prices and currency\nexchange rates,\u201d he stated during the 2026 Inflation Control\nCoordination Meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in\nJakarta on Monday (18\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
The Minister explained that Indonesia\u2019s current inflation achievement\nremains highly controlled compared to several other nations facing\nextreme inflationary pressures due to global economic volatility.\nAccording to him, this condition demonstrates the effectiveness of\ninflation control measures implemented through coordinated efforts\nbetween the central and regional governments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are countries that have reached 612 per cent\u2014imagine all\nprices of goods and services increasing sixfold\u2014while we are at 2.42 per\ncent, meaning inflation is controlled,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
He also noted that the transport sector was the highest contributor\nto monthly inflation during this period. Conversely, the expenditure\ngroup for food, beverages, and tobacco remained relatively stable,\nacting as a balancing factor in keeping inflationary pressures under\ncontrol.<\/p>\n
As an anticipatory measure, the Minister requested local governments,\nparticularly in regions with inflation rates above target such as West\nPapua and Aceh, to immediately resolve food distribution issues. This is\nspecifically related to red chilli commodities, which remain one of the\nfactors triggering price increases in several regions.<\/p>\n
