Local governments in several regions have stated their readiness for\nthe organisation of the Academic Ability Test (TKA) for junior high\nschool level, which will take place on 6 April 2026. The TKA is a\nnational assessment instrument to measure students\u2019 academic\nachievements according to the curriculum, it is non-mandatory, and does\nnot determine graduation.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Junior High School Division of the Manokwari Regency\nEducation Office, West Papua, Parjiyanti, explained that the regional\ngovernment has undertaken various preparations from the beginning to\nensure the TKA runs smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have conducted socialisation to school principals and school\noperators from February to March 2026, including special training\nrelated to the TKA implementation. Socialisation was also carried out\nthrough school principals\u2019 consultation forums and learning\ncommunities,\u201d she said, quoted from an official statement on Friday\n(3\/4).<\/p>\n
The regional government has also ensured that all ninth-grade\nstudents are registered as TKA participants through coordination with\nthe Civil Registration and Population Office to validate student data,\nincluding anticipating duplicate NISN possibilities.<\/p>\n
To date, around 3,375 students in Manokwari Regency have been\nregistered as TKA participants and it is ensured that none are left out.\nFrom the infrastructure side, checks on device and network readiness\nhave been conducted in all schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery educational unit is required to follow simulations and clean\nrehearsals. For areas with network limitations, schools can join the\nnearest school,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
In addition, the regional government has coordinated with PLN and\nTelkom Indonesia to anticipate technical disruptions such as power\noutages and network issues during the TKA implementation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of Junior High School Development at the Sikka\nRegency Education, Youth, and Sports Office, NTT, Husein Hanafi Suaib,\nmentioned that device readiness remains a challenge in several schools,\nespecially since most still rely on limited school-owned laptops.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome schools have requested teachers to lend laptops during the TKA\nimplementation. We have also conducted national simulations and clean\nrehearsals to test device and network readiness, as well as coordinated\nwith PLN and Telkom to ensure stable electricity and internet supply,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
According to Husein, coordination between the regional government and\neducational units is carried out in stages, starting from socialisation\nof technical guidelines, participant data collection and verification,\nto monitoring of facilities and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe conduct area mapping, establish independent school and piggyback\nschool schemes, and prepare standby technical teams. A mechanism for\nfollow-up exams is also prepared for participants affected by technical\nissues,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
From a policy perspective, education observer Totok Amin views the\ncontinuation of TKA implementation after its application at the high\nschool level as a positive step.<\/p>\n
According to him, the TKA is important as an instrument to view\nstudents\u2019 learning achievements more comprehensively, especially at the\njunior high school level, which is a crucial phase in the learning\nprocess.<\/p>\n
TKA results can help identify learning challenges while encouraging\nthe strengthening of understanding-based and critical thinking learning\nmethods, not just memorisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cTKA is not a national exam, not a graduation requirement, and not a\nrequirement for entering public schools. This needs to be understood by\nthe public to avoid excessive concerns that could lead to cheating\npractices. TKA is a measurement tool, not a determinant of students\u2019\nfutures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that TKA data can be utilised as a basis for formulating\neducation policies, both at the regional and national levels. Through\nthese results, the government can map student abilities, from literacy\nto numeracy, while identifying the needs for strengthening learning and\nproviding teachers.<\/p>\n
Currently, the number of TKA registrants for junior high school level\nis recorded at 4,207,516 students. After going through the simulation\nand clean rehearsal stages, the junior high school TKA implementation\nwill take place from 6-16 April 2026 with four sessions each day.<\/p>\n
The next stage, the elementary school level TKA is scheduled for\n20-30 April 2026.
