Local fruit potential<\/p>\n

I have felt for some time that our country is fast loosing
\nwhat it has, like local fruits, which are increasingly becoming a
\nrarity. A few of these are kesemek, gowok, kebembem, cereme,
\njamblang, rambutan si nyonya, rambutan lengkeng, etc. which can
\nbe found abundantly when in season.<\/p>\n
We understand that these fruits have become rare species,
\nbecause people do not like their often pungent flavors. But in
\nterms of nature's potential riches, it would be regrettable if
\nthese fruits just vanished from our country without anyone giving
\na hoot about it, conducting research on them, or trying to
\nprotect their existence.<\/p>\n
I hope that plant lovers and farmers do not cast away these
\n\"unmarketable\" fruits. Perhaps in the future a scientist would
\nsucceed in engineering a new kind of fruit from the originals.
\nOne example is the Rafia rambutan which reminds me of the Aceh
\nLebak rambutan and lengkeng rambutan.<\/p>\n
Aside from their sweet flavor, the flesh easily comes off the
\nkernel.<\/p>\n
