Local chiefs told to watch migrants<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta's Deputy Governor for Administrative
\nAffairs Abdul Kahfi on Friday instructed chiefs of community and
\nneighborhood units (RT\/RW) to closely watch migrants who had not
\nyet registered as Jakarta residents.<\/p>\n
Kahfi told the city's five mayors at a City Hall meeting that
\nthey should order RT\/RW chiefs to closely monitor migrants.<\/p>\n
The meeting was abruptly called after a bomb blast demolished
\nan Acehnese dormitory in Guntur subdistrict, South Jakarta,
\nkilling two people on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Kahfi said the RT\/RW chiefs should quickly report to the their
\nrespective subdistrict chiefs if they noticed anything suspicious
\nconcerning migrants.<\/p>\n
\"The RT\/RW chiefs should actively monitor their residents.
\nAmong the places that should be monitored are dormitories housing
\npeople from other provinces,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He called on Jakarta residents, especially city officials, to
\nincrease their alertness so as to prevent unexpected incidents
\nfrom occurring given the current uncertain political climate. The
\nofficials should also intensify their communications with the
\npeople.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso called on Thursday night
\nfor Jakarta to stay on the alert as more terrorist acts not be
\nruled out.<\/p>\n
\"But people shouldn't panic as a result of this incident,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He called on people to increase their awareness of suspicious
\npersons in their neighborhoods, including watching their houses.<\/p>\n
He was of the opinion that the blast had to involve a
