LNG team heading to China<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Mines and Energy Kuntoro
\nMangkusubroto and president of state oil and gas company
\nPertamina Martiono Hadianto will travel soon to China to market
\nliquefied natural gas (LNG) produced at Tangguh LNG plant in
\nIrian Jaya.<\/p>\n
Martiono said on Thursday they would meet with Chinese
\nofficials during the marketing tour.<\/p>\n
\"We shall do it because our competitors from countries like
\nAustralia have also involved their top government officials in
\nmarketing their LNG to China,\" Martiono said.<\/p>\n
He did not disclose the trip schedule.<\/p>\n
The Tangguh gas fields, which are owned by Atlantic Richfield
\nIndonesia Inc. (ARII), a subsidiary of the United States oil and
\ngas company Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), British Gas and
\nseveral partners, is believed to contain 18.3 trillion cubic feet
\n(tcf) of proven and probable natural gas reserves.<\/p>\n
All LNG producers in the region are turning their attention to
\nChina as a prospective purchaser following weak demand in regular
\ncustomers like Korea, Japan and Taiwan.<\/p>\n
China recently announced it would need three million tons of
\nLNG by 2003 for its power plants. (jsk)<\/p>",
