Lists of more crooked politicians released<\/p>\n

Non-governmental organizations made public on Friday the names of
\ncrooked politicians in Lampung and Southeast Sulawesi provinces
\nand urged people not to vote for them in the legislative election
\non Monday.<\/p>\n
An alliance of 38 student, academic and journalist groups said
\nthere are at least 190 unscrupulous politicians in Lampung, who
\nwere currently contesting the election.<\/p>\n
They comprise 75 members of the Lampung Provincial Legislative
\nCouncil, 45 councillors in Tenggamus regency, 45 in Bandarlampung
\nregency and 25 others in Kota Metro regency, as listed by the
\nNGOs grouped under the Movement Not to Vote for Rotten
\nPoliticians (GJPPB).<\/p>\n
GJPPB spokesman Saad Sobari said they were included in the
\nlist for their alleged role in corruption, offending the people's
\nsense of propriety and lacking empathy for the poor.<\/p>\n
The movement distributed brochures urging locals not to vote
\nfor them in the election and instead give their support for
\nhonest and clean candidates and those not involved in human
\nrights violations or drugs abuse.<\/p>\n
"The greatest achievement of the councillors is their passion
\nfor corruption. They take cuts from the budgets. The corruption
\nhas been camouflaged by their role in drafting the budgets," he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Saad said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)
\ntopped the list.<\/p>\n
In Southeast Sulawesi, prodemocracy groups also released the
\nlist of 45 names of unscrupulous legislative candidates, most of
\nthem from the Golkar Party.<\/p>\n
They said at least 26 of the names were from Golkar, nine from
\nPDI-P and four from the United Development Party (PPP).<\/p>\n
Hidayatullah, spokesman of the groups campaigning against the
\nunscrupulous politicians, said they were implicated in cases of
\ncorruption, human rights violations, sexual harassment, public
\ndeception and conspiracy with blacklisted investors.<\/p>\n
The list came out as the result of verification and data
\ncollected through the media and other sources, he added.<\/p>\n
Hidayatullah said the criteria used to judge the crooked
\npoliticians included whether they abused their power by
\nneglecting their duty as state officials, hampered efforts to
\nfight corruption or used state facilities for personal interests.<\/p>\n
Also, the vast wealth of the politicians on the list was also
\nquestioned as it was not consistent with their official salaries,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
He said it was the prodemocracy movement's commitment to make
\nthe list public, so people would be cautious and would not elect
\nrepresentatives who were not credible in the upcoming election.<\/p>\n
Hino Biohanis, a senior Golkar executive who is the Southeast
\nSulawesi Legislative Council speaker, threatened to sue the
\nactivists for mentioning his name.<\/p>\n
"What they are accusing me of is not true. It's libel. All
\nthis time as a councillor, I've never been involved in corruption
\nor bribery," he said emotionally.<\/p>\n
Similarly, another Golkar legislative Umar Saranani also
\nplanned to file a lawsuit against the activists, but added that
\nhe would meet them beforehand for clarification.<\/p>\n
"If they cannot reveal the evidence, I'll take legal action,"
\nhe said.<\/p>",
