President Prabowo Subianto introduced eight special guests at the MPR\nAnnual Session at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday\n(14 August). These special guests were representatives of beneficiaries\nof the government\u2019s strategic programmes, introduced alternately by\nPrabowo during his State Address.<\/p>\n
Here are brief profiles of Prabowo\u2019s special guests at the MPR\nsession:<\/p>\n
Joko Puro is the head of a farmers\u2019 group from Purwosari Village,\nNgawi, East Java. He has reportedly been working as a farmer for 20\nyears. \u201cWith the water, technology, and fertiliser provided by the\ngovernment, he is now able to harvest three times a year with a\nproductivity of up to 9 tonnes of rice per hectare,\u201d Prabowo stated. The\nPresident also noted that a 20 per cent reduction in fertiliser prices\nhad helped cut his production costs. Prabowo then expressed his\nappreciation for the hard work of farmers, agricultural extension\nworkers, local governments, the TNI, Polri, state-owned food\nenterprises, cooperatives, and other elements of the nation.<\/p>\n
Kristina is a farmer\u2019s daughter from Merauke, South Papua, currently\nin the 6th grade of primary school. She was introduced as a recipient of\nthe Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. \u201cMBG has helped Kristina\nbecome fitter, more focused, and more diligent in attending school,\u201d\nPrabowo said. The President added that for Kristina and tens of millions\nof other MBG recipients, a plate of food provides the energy to study\nand the protein to grow healthy bodies, brain cells, muscles, and\nbones.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Risky Pratama was mentioned when Prabowo discussed the\nSekolah Rakyat (People\u2019s Schools) programme. Risky, 12, is a student at\nSekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 2 in Medan. Risky was said to\nhave cycled tens of kilometres while carrying around 30 kg of fish to\nsell. \u201cImagine a body like this riding a bicycle carrying 30 kg of fish.\nYou are extraordinary, Risky, you are a good kid,\u201d Prabowo said after\ncalling Risky to stand. Risky had previously dropped out of school and\nwas not yet fluent in reading or counting. However, through Sekolah\nRakyat, he was able to return to school.<\/p>\n
Another beneficiary of the Sekolah Rakyat programme introduced was\nCitra Nur Ramadhani. Citra is from Pangkajene, South Sulawesi. Because\nshe had to help her mother sell peanuts, Citra almost dropped out of\nschool when she reached the 4th grade. She then got the opportunity to\nattend Sekolah Rakyat and recently won a district-level karate\nchampionship. Prabowo also chatted with Citra during his speech. \u201cCitra,\nhow old are you?\u201d Prabowo asked. Citra stood up and appeared to answer\nthat she was 10 years old, although her voice was inaudible. \u201cWell, in\n10 years, you can have a boyfriend,\u201d Prabowo said, drawing laughter from\nthe audience. \u201cYou can have a boyfriend after you get your black belt in\nkarate. That way, no one will dare mess with you,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Susanah, from Bogor Regency, is a daily labourer who works peeling\nonions. The Family Hope Programme and basic food assistance were\nreported to have helped secure the education of her children.<\/p>\n
Margarelitha Rohi is from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. She never\nattended school and had to sell goods while caring for an 80-year-old\nfamily member. Margarelitha\u2019s family became recipients of ATENSI social\nassistance, which includes rice and cooking oil.<\/p>\n
Thelma Humena and her family are beneficiaries of the Self-Help\nHousing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme. Originally from Manado,\nThelma and her family previously lived in a house with a fragile\nfoundation and damaged walls, floors, and roof.<\/p>\n
Finally, Andre Kawaru from Samarinda. He is a night market trader who\npreviously lived in rented accommodation.
