        "content": "<p>'Liquor policy will fail'<\/p>\n<p>The city administration recently banned the sale of drinks<br>\ncontaining more than 5 percent alcohol at supermarkets and<br>\nhypermarkets. The Jakarta Post asked people for their comments<br>\non the policy.<\/p>\n<p>Ardi Kho, 45, is the executive director of an international<br>\nschool in South Jakarta. He lives with wife and children in<br>\nBintaro, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>I think banning liquor in the capital is difficult if not<br>\nimpossible. We have seen how the prohibitions on gambling and<br>\nprostitution do not work.<\/p>\n<p>The government says people cannot gamble but there are<br>\ngambling dens everywhere. They also say that prostitution is<br>\nprohibited but there are lots of prostitution centers. I believe<br>\nban on liquor will also fail.<\/p>\n<p>Banning liquor in the capital is also unwise because there are<br>\npeople here who need it. For instance, many foreigners are<br>\naccustomed to drinking liquor because that is what they do in<br>\ntheir countries.<\/p>\n<p>I propose that the government place restrictions on who can<br>\nbuy liquor. For instance, require people to show their<br>\nidentification card or passport to buy liquor.<\/p>\n<p>Broto Susanto, 39, works at a multinational firm in Jakarta.<br>\nHe lives with his wife and children in Menteng, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>I am Muslim and I do not drink liquor, but I have so many<br>\nfriends, locals and expatriates, who drink wine, vodka or just<br>\nbeer. I can understand why they drink liquor and they understand<br>\nwhy I do not. But I do not understand why the Jakarta<br>\nadministration wants to ban these drinks.<\/p>\n<p>As far as I can see, people who drink liquor never bother<br>\nother people or commit crimes because they are drunk. They just<br>\ndrink for fun. Many of my friends even say that drinking wine is<br>\ngood for their health.<\/p>\n<p>I think what the government should do is restrict who is<br>\nallowed to buy liquor.
