Lippo Karawaci named Indonesia best developer<\/p>\n

Real estate developer PT Lippo Karawaci was voted best developer
\nin Indonesia and ranked ninth in Asia Pacific according to
\nLondon-based financial magazine Euromoney's 2005 Real Estate
\nAwards.<\/p>\n
The award, voted upon by industry peers, was judged on the
\ncriteria of most consistent providers of high quality, profitable
\nreal estate projects as well as individual developments, both
\nrecently completed and those at the planning stage.<\/p>\n
\"This award is presented based not only on the company's
\nfinancial figures, but also from a poll of peers in the real
\nestate industry, meaning that people in your industry also
\nrespect you,\" Neil Osborn, Euromoney's publisher and managing
\ndirector, said in the award ceremony on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In Asia, Lippo Karawaci ranks ninth after major players such
\nas Hong Kong's Sun Hung Kai Properties, Australia's Westfield
\nGroup, Macquarie and Mirvac, the Philippine's Ayala Land, Japan's
\nMitsubishi Estate and China Vanke.<\/p>\n
For the past 10 years, the magazine has annually awarded banks
\nand securities companies across the world for achievements of
\nhigh standards of excellence, but this year was the first time it
\nhad a category for real estate.<\/p>\n
\"We have never done real estate before because until recently
\nit was very domestic. But the scale of international investment
\nis going up, and the complexity of finance surrounding the real
\nestate industry has become more complex in the last four to five
\nyears,\" Osborn said, adding that Euromoney believes in cross-
\nborder investment.<\/p>\n
PT Lippo Karawaci is a property group with three core
\nbusinesses: housing and land development, infrastructure and
\nhospitality, health care and hospitals.<\/p>\n
The development of Lippo Karawaci in Tangerang, Banten, began
\nin 1992 with a winning Edge City master plan from urban planning
\nexpert Gordon G. Benton, OBE.<\/p>\n
\"Our vision was to make it a city with the best
\ninfrastructure, with its own drinking water, sewage treatment and
\nrecycling, good public transportation and good, green,
\nenvironment,\" Benton said.<\/p>\n
He said that Lippo Karawaci was now home to some 40,000 people
\nor 9,000 families, and provided some 47,000 jobs in the retail,
\neducation, medical and sports sectors.<\/p>\n
\"I think Lippo Karawaci was voted one of the best developers
\nbecause of one of our land and housing development divisions that
\nwas successful in developing three new cities -- Lippo Karawaci
\nin Banten, Lippo Cikarang in Bekasi and Tanjung Bunga in
\nMakasar,\" Lippo Karawaci president Viven Sitiabudi said.<\/p>\n
She also said that the company was also responsible for the
\ndevelopment of major shopping centers in Tangerang, Depok,
\nCibubur, Surabaya and Malang in East Java, as well as in Medan
\nand Binjai in North Sumatra.<\/p>",
