I've been let go from my job as a TV anchor for a Chinese
\ngeography program on a private television station in Jakarta
\nbecause I've been named a legislative candidate. I don't think
\nthe reason they gave: that as a TV anchor I can influence public
\nopinion is appropriate, because my program has nothing to do with
\npolitics.<\/p>\n
Several other actors and presenters have also been treated
\nlikewise. This treatment is just downright unfair.<\/p>\n
Being an anchorman or anchorwoman is a profession. I wonder
\nwhether businessmen, clerics, lecturers or physicians, for
\nexample should quit their jobs before becoming legislative
\ncandidates. Are legislative candidates prohibited from appearing
\non the television? Am I not allowed to continue with my
\nprofession as an anchorwoman because I'm on TV and at the same
\ntime also a legislative candidate?<\/p>\n
I hope that when government agencies related to the general
\nelections draft regulations, these regulations must be
\nproportional and do not violate our conscience.<\/p>\n
