Lido Lake skies gear up for parachuting c'ships<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Organizers of the Sixth World Parachuting
\nChampionships at Lido Lake in Bogor, West Java said all
\nparticipants would be ready for the competition by Monday, four
\ndays before the opening ceremony on June 14.<\/p>\n
\"Most of the listed participants are already here. We are
\nexpecting more entrants within the next two or three days,\" Dody
\nTrianto, the general secretary of the organizing committee, told
\nThe Jakarta Post yesterday.<\/p>\n
The organizers will hold an official rehearsal on June 12, but
\nDody said some of the early arrivals had adjusted themselves to
\nthe venue.<\/p>\n
Lido, a recreational resort 70 kilometers south of the
\ncapital, lies at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n
The United States, Russia, Canada, England, France, China,
\nMalaysia, South Africa, Finland, the Netherlands, Australia,
\nFrance, Germany, China, Switzerland, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia
\nand host Indonesia have all confirmed their participation.<\/p>\n
\"Thailand revealed interest in taking part in the
\nchampionships, but has not registered its parachutists,\" Dody
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
About 150 parachutists will compete in the 10-day canopy
\nrotation championships, a prelude to the Indonesian Air Show.
\nThirteen foreign judges will help in the competition.<\/p>\n
Indonesia will take part in all the three categories: four-way
\nrotation, four-way sequential and eight-way formation. The
\nparticipants will jump from Pilatus aircraft owned by the
\nIndonesian Air Force.<\/p>\n
A team made up of members of the Army's Special Force and a
\ncivilian team selected from Bandung-based club Aves, will
\nrepresent Indonesia in the championships.<\/p>\n
The country's military team is geared up for the world event
\nafter recently winning the Malaysia Open canopy formation
\nchampionships.<\/p>\n
Their civilian counterparts have just returned from a stint in
\nthe United States.<\/p>\n
Shortly after the championships, a bogey jump extravaganza
\nwill be held above the Prambanan and Borobudur temples in Central
