She noted that this annual\noccasion should serve as an important reminder of the need to build a\nculture of literacy within society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExperience in various regions shows that revitalisation involving\ncommunities, local governments, and stakeholders is capable of\naccelerating the transformation of reading spaces into sought-after\ndestinations,\u201d Rerie stated in a written release on Monday\n(14\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Library Visit Day was first established by President Soeharto on 14\nSeptember 1995. The designation aimed to increase reading interest while\nsimultaneously strengthening the literacy culture of the Indonesian\npeople.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rapid conversion of the Jepara Regent\u2019s official residence into\npart of the Kartini Museum is a form of strong collaboration between all\nrelevant parties in making it happen,\u201d said Rerie.<\/p>\n<p>Rerie expressed hope that such collaboration could be applied\nconsistently in the development of the national cultural sector. This\neffort is deemed crucial as libraries and museums face similar\nchallenges in attracting public visits.<\/p>\n<p>National Library data for 202&lt;0xC2&gt;5 records that the number of\nlibraries in Indonesia has reached 219,415 units. This figure consists\nof 155,904 library units within primary to upper secondary schools, and\n54,344 public libraries (at provincial, regency\/city, district, and\nvillage\/sub-district levels).<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there are 5,833 specialised libraries (within\ngovernment institutions, non-governmental organisations, and places of\nworship), as well as 3,335 libraries within higher education\nenvironments. According to the same source, the number of accredited\nlibraries stands at 14,774 (6.73%), while unaccredited libraries reach\n204,641 (93.27%).<\/p>\n<p>These challenges must be addressed through strengthening efforts\nacross several sectors and cannot be achieved in isolation. According to\nRerie, cross-sector commitment is required to ensure that these spaces\nof knowledge remain vibrant and accessible to the wider public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong collaboration between all relevant parties is greatly needed\nto realise this as part of the effort to bring prosperity to the\ncommunity through the broad improvement of literacy,\u201d concluded\nRerie.<\/p>",
