        "content": "<p>Librarians<\/p>\n<p>From Suara Karya<\/p>\n<p>A fundamental change in librarians' mentalities is needed to<br>\nimprove the image of libraries, which are regarded as<br>\nconservative and rather slow in accepting change. This statement<br>\nwas made by Prabowo Tjitropranoto, head of Central Library of<br>\nAgriculture and Communication Research of the Agriculture<br>\nDepartment, in his oration during his induction as principal<br>\nlibrarian in Jakarta on May 17, 1995. Soekarman Kartosedono of<br>\nthe National Library was also installed as principal librarian on<br>\nthe same day.<\/p>\n<p>Prabowo's suggestion should be hailed by all librarians in<br>\nIndonesia. However, to change a mentality is easier said than<br>\ndone.<\/p>\n<p>The age has changed. A library user is surrounded by<br>\nlibraries. But libraries can no longer claim to be the sole<br>\nagents of information. With the help of your computer you can<br>\nhave a choice of menu of World Wide Web if you join the Internet<br>\nsystem. This will make libraries, sooner or later, obsolete<br>\ncommodities.<\/p>\n<p>Will the profession of librarians be threatened in the future?<br>\nThe training courses of librarians in Indonesia should be market<br>\noriented, by teaching creative thinking and entrepreneurship to<br>\nthe students.
