        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the\nissue of level railway crossings that have remained unaddressed for\ndecades.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was made during a visit to the site of the collision\nbetween the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi\nTimur Station on Tuesday (28\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Prabowo noted that the number of level crossings remains high. Java\nIsland has around 1,800 points that are not guarded or have not been\ndiverted to flyovers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this dates back to the Dutch era, right? It\u2019s been decades\nnow, so let\u2019s just resolve all of that,\u201d said Prabowo.<\/p>\n<p>The second scheme involves placing guarding personnel at the\ncrossings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will appoint the implementers later,\u201d Prabowo stated.<\/p>\n<p>The government estimates the required budget to be Rp 4 trillion. The\nmain focus is directed towards improving transportation safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is the time; it\u2019s been decades without action, now we will do\nit,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of level crossings has also drawn attention from the House\nof Representatives. Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian\nHouse of Representatives, Syaiful Huda, stated that the crossing points\nare widespread across various regions.<\/p>\n<p>House of Representatives data records that the number of level\ncrossings in Indonesia reaches 3,000 to 4,000 points. Most of them lack\nguarding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently, only about 1,200 level crossing points are guarded,\neither by PT KAI, local governments, or the Transportation Agency.\nMeanwhile, there are 2,600 points without guarding,\u201d said Huda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rest are illegal crossings,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>The KRL was held up on the track because there was another train\nahead of it. That train had previously collided with a taxi that was\nstopped at the level crossing.<\/p>\n<p>Initial information indicated that the vehicle broke down in the\nmiddle of the track.<\/p>\n<p>Data up to 08:45 WIB recorded 14 people dead. Another 84 people were\ninjured.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this incident, PT KAI cancelled 19 long-distance train\njourneys on the same day.<\/p>",
