        "content": "<p>Lessons from Buleleng<\/p>\n<p>Two people were killed in Buleleng subdistrict, in the north<br>\nof Bali following a bloody clash between supporters of the Bali<br>\nchapters of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-<br>\nPerjuangan) and Golkar Party.<\/p>\n<p>Other people were injured and a number of cars were set ablaze<br>\nduring the incident, which occurred on the eve of the<br>\ncommemoration of Youth Pledge Day on Oct. 28.<\/p>\n<p>Young Indonesian intellectuals from different faiths, tribes<br>\nand languages vowed on Oct 28, 1928 to have one country, one<br>\nnation and one language.<\/p>\n<p>Surprised leaders of the two political parties in Jakarta have<br>\nexpressed regret over the conflict, saying they had no grudge<br>\nagainst each other.<\/p>\n<p>The Buleleng clash highlights once again the tendency for many<br>\nof this nation&apos;s people to use violence, rather than dialog, to<br>\naddress problems.<\/p>\n<p>The clash could be seen as a warning that there is a problem<br>\namong political parties which needs to be solved, otherwise more<br>\nwidespread conflicts will occur during the 2004 general election<br>\ncampaign.<\/p>\n<p>It is time for the people to take the example set by those<br>\nvisionary Indonesians in 1928, when they were able to settle<br>\ntheir conflicts peacefully.<\/p>\n<p>What would have happened if people from different backgrounds<br>\nat that time used violence against each other to settle their<br>\nproblems?<\/p>\n<p>In general, Indonesia&apos;s young pioneers in 1928 were not<br>\nwealthy but were rich in mission and vision.<\/p>\n<p>Such people are desperately needed if this country hopes to<br>\nprogress in the future.<\/p>\n<p>-- Bisnis Indonesia, Jakarta<\/p>",
