        "content": "<p>Lenteng Agung school wins contest for the disabled<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Students from the Lenteng Agung school, South<br>\nJakarta, came out winners in Saturday's sports competitions for<br>\nthe disabled, which were held in Kuningan, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Asih Budi II junior school, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, won<br>\nsecond prize, and another school, Budi Daya, came third.<\/p>\n<p>The competitions were comprised of athletics, mass gymnastics<br>\nand long-distance walking for families.<\/p>\n<p>The one-day event, especially for those with mental<br>\ndisabilities, was organized by the Special Olympics Foundation of<br>\nIndonesia. The foundation arranges competitions for talent<br>\nscouting aimed for international competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Mustara Musa, a coach, said the foundation is now preparing to<br>\nsend athletes to Singapore's National Games, to which Indonesia<br>\nis also invited. The games, to take place in May, include<br>\ncompetitions for the disabled, Mustara said.<\/p>\n<p>Another coach, former badminton champion Minarni Soedaryanto,<br>\nsaid sports and competitions are very important to increase self-<br>\nconfidence of the disabled.<\/p>\n<p>\"But parents need to be constantly urged to support their<br>\nchildren\" who want to join sports, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mustara said children tend to shed dependence on family<br>\nmembers when they participate in sports. Sportsmanship is high<br>\namong athletes with mental disabilities, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"They are very disappointed when they lose, but are happy for<br>\ntheir winning competitors,\" Mustara said.<\/p>\n<p>The event in Kuningan was also an opportunity for fun, even<br>\nfor participants who had not exercised regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Sari, a participant in the family long-distance walk, said she<br>\nenjoyed the event.<\/p>\n<p>The competition was attended by Sri Sumarsih Surjadi<br>\nSoedirdja, the governor's wife, who is the foundation's patron.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday's contest was held to celebrate the 39th anniversary<br>\nof the Asih Budi Foundation, an organization focusing on the<br>\ndisabled.
