A road subsidence at Lenteng Agung main road in South Jakarta has\nwidened, affecting two lanes. The South Jakarta Public Works Department\n(SDBM) states that the damage was caused by a hollowed-out drainage\nchannel beneath the road.<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Public Works Department head Rifki Rismal said the\ndepartment first received reports from residents and PPSU officers on\nWednesday (27 May) evening, with the road already subsided and\nsignificantly deepened.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs it was nighttime, we conducted monitoring on Thursday morning,\u201d\nRifki stated on Friday (29 May).<\/p>\n
On Thursday (28 May) morning, SDBM teams carried out initial repairs\nusing cold mix asphalt to ensure safety and comfort for road users.\nCoordination was also made with the South Jakarta Water Resources\nDepartment (SDA), as the primary damage was suspected to stem from the\nunderground drainage system.<\/p>\n
After initial repairs, SDA inspected the site and found the road\u2019s\nsubstructure had eroded, requiring urgent work on the drainage\ncrossing.<\/p>\n
However, during a Thursday afternoon inspection, the road subsided\nand cracked again. Public Works officers installed water barriers to\nminimise accident risks for passing vehicles.<\/p>\n
Shortly after, on Thursday night, the road fully collapsed and\nwidened to engulf two lanes. Rifki said road repairs would only commence\nafter SDA completes work on the culverts and drainage channels.<\/p>\n
