Repair work on a sunken road in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, is 70% complete, allowing buses and trucks to resume passage. Nine box culverts have been installed to manage water flow from University of Indonesia Lake to the Ciliwung River, and traffic is flowing smoothly despite ongoing works.

The repair of the sunken section of Lenteng Agung Timur Road in
Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta, has reached approximately 70 per cent.
Despite ongoing works, the road is now passable by vehicles, including
buses and trucks. ‘We’re about 70 per cent done with the repair as
there’s still concrete pouring and road cleaning to do,’ said Jakarta
South City’s Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs, Iwan K
Santoso, during a site inspection on Sunday (31 May 2026). To date, nine
box culverts have been installed beneath the sunken road section, with
one additional culvert required to complete the works. ‘The installation
of the box culverts is 90 per cent complete, as only one remains,’ Iwan
added. He explained that the culverts are necessary because water flows
from the University of Indonesia Lake to the Ciliwung River beneath the
collapsed area. Kompas.com’s on-site observation shows the sunken road
area has been covered with over 15 tightly arranged steel plates.
Various two- and four-wheeled vehicles are passing smoothly over the
steel plates. On Sunday morning, three buses and one truck were seen
traversing the road without significant hindrance. However, larger
vehicles reduced their speed when passing over the previously sunken
section. Meanwhile, motorcycles, private cars, and public transport
buses are moving freely. As of 10.30 WIB, traffic was reported to be
busy but flowing smoothly without congestion. The road had previously
collapsed on Thursday (28 May 2026) evening.
",
