Leisure turns to tragedy<\/p>\n
The death of the spokesman for Indonesian Bank Restructuring
\nAgency (IBRA), Raymond van Beekum apparently shocked the media.
\nAs most of IBRA activities relating with media had been handled
\nby Raymond and his colleague.<\/p>\n
Raymond's death also related to media activity. He invited
\njournalists to join a kind of workshop at a hotel in Lido, Ciawi,
\nWest Java. After the workshop Raymond, and other IBRA staff as
\nwell as journalists chose rafting in the Cisadane river at the
\nGenteng village, Bogor, as an outdoor sport.<\/p>\n
No one expected that the leisure would turn into a fatal
\ntragedy. The flash flood suddenly hit the rafts, and almost
\neverybody, including Raymond, was thrown into the river.<\/p>\n
Raymond had been missing for three days, before he was found
\ndead on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The nature is always unpredictable. When people think that
\nthey can control the nature, the nature shows its power.
\nTherefore, we - human beings - must be able to read the signals
\nof the nature.<\/p>\n
We just want to those arranging rafting in Ciawi, Bogor, must
\nbe better prepared with a monitoring team at the upstream, who
\nprovide with any signals of (possible) dangers at anytime.<\/p>\n
