        "content": "<p>Legislators hold hearing at Army HQ<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Unlike regular hearings at the House of <br>\nRepresentatives, Commission I on foreign and defense affairs held <br>\non Monday a hearing at Army headquarters on Jl. Medan Merdeka <br>\nBarat, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Over 20 legislators, who traveled to the hearing in three Army <br>\nbuses, questioned the Army on several issues including the <br>\nongoing Aceh conflict and the role of the National Intelligence <br>\nBody.<\/p>\n<p>\"There is nothing special about the hearing,\" said a <br>\nlegislator from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI <br>\nPerjuangan) during lunch.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission I delegation was led by chairman Ibrahim <br>\nAmbong, and most commission members attended the meeting, <br>\nincluding Permadi, Amris Hassan, Ahmad Sumargono, Happy Bone, <br>\nAstrid Soesanto, Chatibul Umam Wiranu and Effendy Choirie.<\/p>\n<p>Army Chief Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu led the Army delegation, <br>\nwhich included Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) Chief <br>\nMaj. Gen. Bibit Waluyo, Special Forces (Kopassus) Chief Maj. Timor clarification<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeks a clarification <br>\non East Timor's call for an international tribunal against <br>\nIndonesian Military (TNI) officials for human rights abuses.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign minister Hassan Wirayuda said on Monday that his <br>\nofficials had met with the East Timorese charge d'affairs for an <br>\nexplanation.<\/p>\n<p>\"The East Timorese official said he would confirm the reports <br>\nwith Dili and we'll wait for further information,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>East Timorese Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri said last week that <br>\nhe was not satisfied with the ongoing ad hoc human rights <br>\ntribunal against TNI personnel allegedly involved in the 1999 <br>\nEast Timor massacre and would thus call for an international <br>\ntribunal.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta said the statement was \"a concern\", as it was contrary <br>\nto both countries' stance in developing bilateral relations.<\/p>\n<p>Hassan said his office would wait for a reply before following <br>\nup with the matter. -- JP<\/p>",
