Legislator urges Rachman to quit<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: An Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
\nPerjuangan) legislator urged Attorney General M.A. Rachman on
\nFriday to resign following the decision of the Public Servants'
\nWealth Audit Commission (KPKPN) to report him to the police over
\nhis wealth declaration.<\/p>\n
Teras Narang, who is also chairman of the House of
\nRepresentatives' Commission II on legal and home affairs, said
\nthat it would be prudent for Rachman to step aside.<\/p>\n
\"For the sake of the judicial system, it would be better for
\nRachman to step down,\" Teras told reporters after a party
\nmeeting.<\/p>\n
Rachman was reported to police by the KPKPN for concealing his
\nwealth and giving conflicting statements regarding a number of
\nbank accounts in his name.<\/p>\n
Rachman said earlier that he was ready to quit his position if
\nfound guilty.<\/p>\n
Teras Narang said the PDI Perjuangan would urge President
\nMegawati Soekarnoputri to replace Rachman as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
Megawati, who is also the PDI Perjuangan's chairwoman, had
\nsaid earlier that she would not replace Rachman, arguing that
\nreplacing him would not guarantee better law enforcement. --JP<\/p>",
