Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of Commission I of the House of\nRepresentatives from the PKB faction, Syamsu Rizal, commonly known as\nDaeng Ical, has condemned the Israeli government\u2019s approval of a land\nownership claim proposal in the West Bank, Palestine.<\/p>\n
The move has been described as the first of its kind since Israel\u2019s\noccupation of the West Bank in 1967. The policy is seen as further\nentrenching annexation practices and worsening the protracted conflict\nin the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael\u2019s move is a genuine annexation of Palestinian land. This is\nreal colonialism that must not be tolerated,\u201d said Daeng Ical in an\nofficial press statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to Daeng Ical, Israel has unilaterally seized land\nbelonging to Palestinian communities without considering the fundamental\nrights of residents who have long inhabited the territory.<\/p>\n
Such arbitrary actions, he continued, have the potential to escalate\ntensions and obstruct the peace efforts that the international community\nhas long pursued.<\/p>\n
Beyond strongly condemning the Israeli government, he also urged the\nIndonesian government to take a firm stance in responding to the\npolicy.<\/p>\n
In his view, Indonesia must utilise its membership in the Board of\nPeace (BoP) to pressure Israel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Indonesian government, having joined the Board of Peace, must\nspeak loudly in rejecting this colonialism. Indonesia has a\nconstitutional mandate to oppose all forms of colonialism in the world,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
By exerting pressure on Israel through the BoP, he expressed\nconfidence that the international community would also increasingly\nvoice similar condemnation.<\/p>\n
