        "content": "<p>Legislative posts for women<\/p>\n<p>JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: A local community leader called on the<br>\nruling Golkar to give local women positions in the House of<br>\nRepresentatives and the People's Consultative Assembly, Antara<br>\nreported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Theys H. Eluay said no women from the province have been<br>\nposted at either institutions in the past 25 years. \"This is our<br>\nhomework assignment for Golkar,\" he said. \"It should struggle to<br>\nplace women from Irian Jaya in those legislative bodies after the<br>\n1997 general election.\"<\/p>\n<p>There are currently four women in the Provincial Legislative<br>\nCouncil, but Theys said that's not enough. \"Irian Jaya must be<br>\ngiven more opportunity to improve itself through its women,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The only woman from Irian Jaya to ever sit in the House of<br>\nRepresentatives was Dorkas Hanasby, who was appointed after the<br>\n1972 general election, Theys said.
