Legislation for levies<\/p>\n
It is perhaps understandable that the non-governmental
\norganization Transparency International regards the corruption
\nthat takes place in Indonesia as being the worst in the world.
\nAfter all, even without the existence of any law to authorize it,
\na host of levies prevail in Indonesia. And worst of all, such
\nlevies are now being charged by private companies as well.<\/p>\n
Naturally we hope that something will be done about this.
\nTherefore we welcome the government's decision to abolish the
\nvarious levies that are being made by private parties. We also
\nregard as appropriate the government's intention to abolish or at
\nleast reduce the number of levies made by the bureaucracy.<\/p>\n
The point is that to become an advanced country we must be
\nconsistent and stick to the policy that all levies must be
\nauthorized by law and that the use of the money must be
\ntransparent.<\/p>\n
In case it is considered that having the levies made by
\nprivate parties is considered more efficient, then, for the sake
\nof the public's interest, the selection must be made by open
\ntender and done fairly.<\/p>\n
