Leftist speeches for students<\/p>\n
JOMBANG, East Java: The military has given recordings of
\nDemocratic People's Party (PRD) leaders' speeches to students of
\nTebuireng Islamic boarding school to prove that the leftist group
\nis communist.<\/p>\n
Chief of the Armed Forces' Sociopolitical Affairs Lt. Gen.
\nSyarwan Hamid gave the cassette of the speeches by Budiman
\nSudjatmiko and Dita Indah Sari to school master Yusuf Hasyim
\nSunday.<\/p>\n
Syarwan said the cassette is clear evidence that the political
\nactivists were disseminating communism and undermining the
\nlegitimate government, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Together with Minister of Religious Affairs Tarmizi Taher,
\nlocal Brawijaya army chief Brig. Gen. Muchdi PR and numerous
\nlocal Moslem leaders, Syarwan was attending a ceremony in
\nremembrance of the rebellions of the defunct Indonesian Communist
\nParty in 1948 and 1965.<\/p>\n
Sept. 30 is a day of national mourning as the country observes
\nthe aborted coup attempt by the Indonesian Communist Party.<\/p>\n
The government has accused PRD activists of inciting the July
\n27 riots in Jakarta. Sudjatmiko and other top PRD leaders have
\nbeen arrested and face subversion charges for their alleged part
