Lee's visit highlights ties<\/p>\n
HANOI (Reuter): Singapore's elder statesman Lee Kuan Yew
\narrived in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday for a visit to Vietnam that
\nunderlines growing business and political ties.<\/p>\n
Heading a team of 18 Singaporean businessmen, Lee is scheduled
\nto meet government officials in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's
\neconomic powerhouse, and nearby Song Be province, where Singapore
\nis considering a site for an industrial zone.<\/p>\n
He is also expected to meet national leaders in Hanoi later
\nthis week and to visit two Singaporean property developments in
\nthe capital.<\/p>\n
Lee's delegation included executives from Singaporean
\nproperty, manufacturing, transport, financial and trading firms,
\nSingapore's Trade Development Board said earlier.<\/p>\n
The visit underlined Singaporean business interest in Vietnam
\nand government ties that will be reinforced next July when
\nVietnam joins the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),
\nof which Singapore was one of the founders.<\/p>",
