Moscow \u2014 Lebanon\u2019s President Joseph Aoun is prepared to hold\ndiscussions with Israeli leadership to achieve de-escalation of the\nconflict between the two nations, according to a statement reported by\nLebanon\u2019s NNA news agency on Monday, 9 March.<\/p>\n
The president made the statement during a meeting with the\nambassadors of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark in Beirut. Aoun confirmed\nLebanon\u2019s full readiness to continue negotiations and discuss the\nsecurity issues necessary to halt Israeli attacks, the report\nstated.<\/p>\n
Aoun also confirmed that he had communicated Lebanon\u2019s position to\n\u201cseveral countries attempting to end Israeli attacks\u201d on Lebanon,\naccording to NNA.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Monday, Israel announced the launch of limited ground\noperations in southern Lebanon targeting the Shiite Hizbullah group,\nwhich is based in Lebanon.<\/p>\n
On 2 March, a barrage of rockets was fired from Lebanon towards\nIsrael, with Hizbullah claiming responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n
In response, the Israeli military subsequently launched large-scale\noperations against populated areas throughout Lebanon, including the\ncapital.
